Background of Malaysian long journey in Palm Oil industry

Archipelago
Palm oil (Elaeis guineensis) It comes from West Africa. Four seedlings were planted in Bogor botanical park Java in mid 1800s. From there the species were introduced to other parts of the Indonesia like Sumatera. The near proximity made the Sumatran to introduce in Malaya in the first decade of 1900s.

Ornamental tree
The palm oil when it was introduced to Malaya it was only an ornamental tree in the eyes of the British. We can see in vintage photos planted along the Independent square.
