What’s up guys this is Johnson for JohnsonMalaysia.com welcome to Malaysia, today at sunset in Kuantan I am going for a local Sate or satay. This place was recommended to me by locals.
Thank JESUS CHRIST, today is a weekday, less crowd, if not I may not be able to meet up with the staff for a friendly chat, According to the Faizal who is one of the owner’s son, that his dad started the business mobile. He did not have a push cart, but only a pole across his shoulder, counter weight by food on both sides. Daily he walks to the very spot here on 5 foot walkway and sold the sate.
Humble beginnings
Today, many may not know how in the old days’ people carry food stuff to sell, the term Nasi Kandar came because of the style of carrying the food. I can still remember when I was seven, eight years old my parent used to buy from this type of vendors. Over the years, the shop owner offered to use his shop to do the business the rest was history.
Business Progress
Today Zul sate has made a name because of his delicious sate peanut sauce and the skewer variety of meat like Chicken, Beef, Lamb, deer, rabbit etc. When it comes to weekend you may not get a place a seat so Zul Sate / Satay therefore to serve all they created a take way counter. Place the order, a note will be given for your order and take a seat on the bench, but if a rainy season October – Feb don’t forget your umbrella. The station is located outside, today there are only 2 charcoal grille sets. Faizal told on weekends there will be extra 2 and it will be a very busy day. The meats are marinated with spice and turmeric that gives the golden yellow colour. The inner grill station used to grill with dear, rabbit and other meats.
Kuantan Champion and Royal favorite
Mr. Faizal explains that Zul Sate/satay became the Sate / Satay Champion of state & international competition that was held in Kuantan. What is greater, is the Sultan of Pahang loves this Satay that the palace personal will drop by to buy for the royal family.
Johnson tries
Let me try first how this Sate / Satay really taste. I went up-stairs. The ambiance, Malays style with lots of greens, good for our eyes. I ordered the Beef, Chicken, Dear, lamb sate and rabbit, with Nasi Impit (Compacted white rice) beautiful rectangular shape. Drink, I ordered lime juice. The Star of the Zul sate is their peanut sauce. You can dip it with any other food. The sauce is sweet, thick and nutty and a bit of curry taste, but if you wish to have chilly go ahead and ask to add on it.
I’m sorry unable to include the delicious Sate / Satay eating scene cos something went wrong and I lost the recording, however, I wanted to still post so, when you are in Kuantan, give it a try!!
