Hey guys this is Johnson for Johnsonmalaysia.com welcome to Malaysia and welcome to IPOH the town of millionaires.
Today we are going to a unique street that is known as Jalan Yau Tet Shin.
Koolie to Big Boss
Mr. Yau Tet Shin what’s known as Tau Kay or the big boss. He had a humble beginning from South China and made his Fortune in Ipoh and Kuala Lumpur. Being a Koolie (hard labor) himself, he rose to become a very rich man. He had many subordinates or Koolie which he treated them well. He built many houses and shop houses in the New town of Ipoh
This Street is engulfed with bean sprout chicken in Malay “Tauge Ayam” restaurants and traditional Chinese biscuits and cakes. People come from many places like Singapore and Indonesia, especially the Chinese longing for traditional. I am standing in 365 degrees at each corner you can find something delicious to indulge in.
Fat Bean Sprout
Today I’m visiting the restaurant call Ong Kee which is the site the famous Lou Wong. I’m to check this tasty famous bean sprout of Ipoh with the tender juicy steam chicken. I ordered the fat bean sprout of Ipoh, flat rice noodle in chicken / bone broth, steam chicken complements with garlic ginger paste, homemade chilli and different types of soya sauces to enhance the taste. The cost of this Tauge Ayam / Bean sprouts Chicken Rm15 or about USD 3.5. Actually the portion is enough for two people if you’re a moderate eater.
The food was excellent and fantastic !!! 😉
Ipoh Night Market
After my dinner, I ventured into the next Lane night market that stretched about 100 m. In this night market, you can find local staffs, found one Malay trader selling the traditional headgear and Malay clothing known as Baju Melayu.
Ipoh Halal Food
Nearby in the night market is a restaurant known as Konda Kondi this restaurant. I would like to recommend to my Muslim brothers for Halal Food. Konda Kondi Cafe sells halal Western food. Being a Malaysian Indian Origin, I speak Tamil my grandfather came to Malaya about 100 years ago and the word Konda Kondi I have known since I was young. It is a game I played in my younger days. About 200 m from this Konda Kondi Cafe is another halal restaurant run by Indian Muslim, famously known in Ipoh as Nasi Ganja or Marijuana rice. I tend to do a video about the restaurant in the near future.
Ipoh Desserts Street
After having your dinner the next place you might want to go is Tong Sui Kai, street food desserts. This is a very, very reasonable food with so many choices. When I come to Ipoh, I usually want to go and have the beef noodle on this street food. Here you can have desserts, sweet fruits, Rojak buah and many, many more Chinese food. (Non Halal)
